The Lodge

This artistic, 5000 square foot Lodge sits above a private, 25 acre, bass filled lake surrounded by 200 acres of rolling hills, covered with old growth white oak timber. This Lodge, Lake and Land combine to offer a one of a kind stay found only at this Northeast Missouri property.

The Lodge has a large, open feel to it with the ability to entertain far more than it can sleep. The main level has a more formal feel with warm, tasteful decorating. The lower level is more like a sports bar with a hand crafted bar and a matching full size pool table, both crafted from salvaged materials. This level alone boasts of three, 50" HD flat screen televisions, making this area into the guys ultimate room. The Lodge has 2 beds on each of its three levels and five custom baths with the upper 2 beds sharing a bath.

The property owners, Jerry (Brock) Brockmiller and his wife Sondi, both grew up in this area with Brock being a life-long, high-end builder of custom homes around the Quincy, Illinois area. In the spring of 2004, he and his friend Steve Kiefaber started construction on The Lodge trying to build it with as much salvaged or reclaimed materials that they could find.

Every beam and floor joist went through a long process of power washing, nail pulling and even metal detecting before each piece was re-sawed to square up the big beams or to split the thick floor joist in half. The Lodge was designed with one goal in mind, use all of these majestic timbers in a way that people would get a feel for their girth and age, with minimum cutting of their lengths. As construction went forward it almost became a game to try and finish the entire structure using only reclaimed materials. Recovered charcoal gray slate shingles became tiled showers and kitchen walls with each tile being cut from these 100 year old slates. Exterior gables also found great use for these slates, being applied in more of a traditional shake method.

The exterior of the building has several reclaimed materials on it including cut foundation stones around the entire lower perimeter, brickwork laid out of old road pavers, rusty old barn roof tin, along with the archways around the kitchen being laid up with recovered flat rocks from a grown over backyard icehouse foundation. Throughout The Lodge you'll find evidence of years gone by with many uses of these old but not forgotten products.
